About
Carrie Anne Hudson is a visual artist and illustrator based in San Diego, California. Her work blends dark surrealism with playful nostalgia, drawing inspiration from classic horror, Halloween, vintage cartoons, pop culture, and the strange beauty of the macabre. Working primarily in acrylic paint and ink, she creates narrative-driven imagery infused with humor, melancholy, and magic.
Hudson is known for her ability to fuse contrasting aesthetics - most notably in her signature Hallowtiki™ series, which combines the spooky charm of Halloween with the relaxed vibe of tiki culture. Since its launch in 2019, her Hallowtiki™ series has evolved into one of her most beloved creations, resonating deeply with collectors and art enthusiasts.
Her artistic journey began in childhood and deepened through formal training, culminating in a BFA in Painting and Printmaking after initially studying graphic design. She has exhibited nationally with galleries such as Spoke Art, Gallery1988, and Hero Complex Gallery, and was featured in Alien: 40 Years 40 Artists (Titan Books). Notable milestones include her artist residency in Transylvania (2014), a San Diego Art Prize nomination (2017), and her first solo exhibition, Haunted (2018).
Beyond gallery walls, Hudson connects with fans at art conventions like Monsterpalooza, Midsummer Scream, and the Oddities & Curiosities Expo, offering handmade prints, enamel pins, and other collectibles. Her online Etsy shop serves a global community of collectors and reflects her dedication to craftsmanship and emotional authenticity.
At its heart, Hudson’s art is about storytelling - using color, symbolism, and a touch of humor to explore life’s darker corners and lighter moments. Today, she continues to push into new themes and experiment with different mediums. Whether spooky, sweet, or somewhere in between, her work invites you to step into a world that’s just a little off-center.
